UROP Scholarship Writing Workshop



Hello Scholars,

This is a reminder that this Friday there will be a writing workshop held in the Knowledge Center for those students interested in applying for the UROP summer 2015 research scholarship.  The workshop will take place at 3:00pm MIKC 104.  This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how to write a great application and proposal for this $4,500 dollar scholarship.

Who can apply:  Undergraduate students enrolled full time with a 3.0 gpa at any NSHE institution. 

Research areas: Students working in any area of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) are encouraged to apply.  Fields related to solar energy, water and/or environmental research are of special interest.  These include (but are not limited to): Biology, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Climatology, Computer Science, Ecology, Economics, Ed-ucation, Environmental Studies, Geography, Hydrology, Journalism, Natural Resources, and Political Science.

Scholarship amount: $4,500 for students and $750 for faculty mentors. 

Deadline: Friday, March 6, 2015

The Nevada State Undergraduate Research Journal (NSURJ) is searching for students who may be interested in filling a position as a Senior Co-Editor. This is a student position, open to those with junior or senior standing. Please forward this opportunity to your students.

The Nevada State Undergraduate Research Journal staff is comprised of multiple junior editors and academic referees who collaborate with two senior editors to provide a peer reviewed research based journal which publishes twice every academic year. The journal was created to provide publication opportunities to undergraduate students within the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) to publish their research in various academic disciplines.

Gilman International Scholarship - Studying Abroad


The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is pleased to announce that the online application is now open for students participating in study abroad programs and internships during the summer 2015 and fall 2015/academic year 2015-2016 terms.  The Gilman Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go.  All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.  For more information about the Gilman Scholarship, webinar schedules, and other helpful resources, including subscription to Gilman Advisor Newsletters, please visit the Gilman website at www.iie.org/gilman.

Summer 2015,  Fall 2015, and academic year 2015-2016 online applications are due March 3, 2015 by 11:59pm (central time)

Eligibility Requirements:
* Enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited two- or four-year U.S. institution

* Receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term abroad 

* Be a United States citizen

* Participating in a study abroad program or internship that is no less than four weeks (28 days) – or two weeks (14 days) for current community college students - in one country and no more than an academic year.

* Applying to or accepted into a study abroad program or internship eligible for academic credit by the student's home institution

* Studying or interning in any country not currently under a U.S. State Department Travel Warning or Cuba. Students applying to programs in Mexico may only apply for scholarships to support study in Mexican states where no advisory is in effect according to the U.S. Department of State Travel Warning
